明十三陵 Mínɡshísānlínɡ noun the Ming Tombs 明十三陵The tombs of thirteen Ming Dynasty emperors located in Changping district, Beijing, in the foothills of Mount Tianshou. The tombs cover an area of more than 40 square kilometres. The heart of the Ming Tombs is Changling, the tomb of the Yongle Emperor, Zhu Di (朱棣). This was the first to be built. The other twelve tombs are arranged around it. The tombs are approached through an imposing marble arch. Beyond this is the Great Red Gate (大红门) and a Sacred Way (神路), flanked by stone animals and guardian figures, that leads to Changling. |
